When Palm Jumeirah was built

The construction of Palm Jumeirah began in 2001. The developer – Nakhil – is an Arab construction organization. The first artificial island appeared in the Persian Gulf by 2003. A few years later, almost 5,000 hotels, buildings and shopping centers were built on the island. At the end of 2006, the territory of the artificial island was prepared for successive transfer for the construction of housing and commercial facilities, as well as for settlement. The island is built from sand and stones mined in Dubai, and not from reinforced concrete structures.

Initially, the coastline in Dubai was 72 km, and after the appearance of the island it grew to 1500 km.

The artificial island can be divided into three zones:

• The first part – the trunk – is the very center of Palm Jumeirah. It is connected to the rest of Dubai (mainland) by a 300-meter-long bridge. High-rise buildings with adjacent infrastructure have been built here, shops, elite restaurants, prestigious bars, nightclubs, beauty salons are open.
• Highways are built along the "trunk", while a monorail runs through the very center.
• An underwater tunnel for cars, as well as a bridge for monorail transport to pass through it, will stretch to the "crescent" from the very top of the island.
• The "crown" consists of 16 branches of a palm tree. In the center of each of these branches there are automobile tracks. Two rows of separate houses have been erected along these highways.

Initially, it was supposed to be a much larger distance between these cottages, but in the process of construction, the distance was reduced in order to build as many residential buildings as possible.

The "crescent" is a breakwater: the original project assumed its integrity, but it was decided to make two gaps to exclude stagnant phenomena.

On the territory of the "crescent " there are also hotel residences, hotels, entertainment centers. The total area of the area is 5,600 square meters.

Public transport

How to get to Palm Jumeirah? The best way for many is the monorail, which has been operating since 2009. The monorail runs along the entire "trunk" of the quarter, to the resort complex "Atlantis Palm", which is located in the center of the "crescent".

Trains run every 15 minutes, starting at 09: 00 in the morning and finish their work at 21: 45. The train runs back from 09:15 to 22:00. Tickets can be bought at the ticket offices or at the station vending machines.

At the Palm Gateway station there is a free car parking for 1500 places. They are used by those who came to the station to become passengers of monorail trains.

You can call a taxi in the city through the mobile applications "Karim" and "Uber".

Car rental in Palm Jumeirah will depend on the chosen car brand: for $1000 per month, you can rent a BMW, Cadillac Escalate, Range Rover Sport, Mercedes Benz and other brands. You can also rent a sports car – Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Maserati. The price starts from $1000 per day of use. Yacht rental on Palm Jumeirah will vary from $170 to $800 per hour, depending on the configuration.

Shopping centers

A shopping center that should not be avoided is Nakheel Mall. The four-storey shopping center, opened two years ago, is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. The center offers a huge selection of expensive shops, inside the center there is also a large variety of restaurants and cafes. In the evenings, a free bus runs from the Nakhil Mall to the Point, where you can see the world's largest colored fountains: an amazing sight with musical accompaniment. The fountains of Palm Trees (Palm Fountain) are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest fountains in the world. The area is 1300 square meters. The walking area of the Point during the weekend hosts performances of street artists, concert performances and various events.
